Design

Clare Schuster, founder of Kihi Toi, is a Māori artist and designer based in the Hawkes Bay. Her mission is to use her creative gifts to create unique pieces that aim to boost confidence, create a connection, a belonging and to embrace identity.

These beautiful earrings are made with stainless steel hooks/studs, with strands of wharariki (a type of New Zealand flax with softer leaves, found on mountain slopes and coastal cliffs).

There are five style options:

1. Whakahou Poto = Short (the leaf measures approximately 5cm)

2. Whakahou Roa = Long (the leaf measures approximately 7cm)

3. Whakahou Taurua = Double (the leaves measure approximately 6cm)

4. Haeata = Inspired by the sun, the leaves are fanned out representing beams of light (longest beam measures approximately 4cm)

5. Hono = Four short strands (the leaves measure approximately 2.5cm)

Care instructions: Keep dry. Gently pat dry with a dry, clean cloth if required.

Made using Wharariki NZ mountain flax, coastal flax (Phormium cookianum) leaf ; a natural material as the main focus. Being a natural material, please be aware that the colour and condition of the flax leaf may fade or change over time and the pair you receive may differ slightly from the listing photo due to using unique pieces of flax leaf.
