Kara Kawa combines honest, artisanal skill with therapeutic New Zealand flora. Handmade by Kara in small batches, these decadent soaps are made in the Tasman region of New Zealand. With five options to choose from, all vegetarian and vegan friendly, and containing the amazing Kawakawa, there is something to suit everyone.

Kara’s unique extraction process is what gives her products a distinctive potency. While we won’t give away all her secrets, Kawakawa leaves are steeped in Coconut Oil, Olive Oil or Sweet Almond Oil for a minimum of 4 weeks at a low temperature. At this point, the oil has a rich earthy Kawakawa aroma and distinctive dark green colouring.

Kara’s Kawakawa Soap and Harakeke Soap are made without essential oils or additives. This makes them safe for sensitive skin, babies and animals. The rest of Kara’s products are lightly scented with low quantities of essential oils. 

Kara’s Kawakawa is harvested by hand in the Marlborough Sounds. Her process respects New Zealand’s heritage, ancestors and future generations by honouring Māori tradition and sustainable practice.

Care is taken to not break branches, disrupt the surroundings, or over-pick plants. We pick only the leaves with the most holes and only a few from each tree. We take only what’s needed and return any spare flora to the Earth. Honestly, there usually isn’t excess as we use all of the plant, including the stalks.

Harvested Kawakawa is washed in clean water before processing.

  • Nature’s own liquid gold, Manuka honey, is a natural antibiotic, wound healer and skin hydrator – able to draw and retain moisture in the skin.
  • Cocoa and Shea Butter soften the skin while nourishing it in antioxidants.
  • Gently scented with Manuka and Kanuka Essential Oils.

Kawakawa & Harakeke Soap

  •  Kawakawa calms inflammation and protects from harmful microbes – reducing redness and calming itchy skin.
  • As Mother Nature’s band-aid, Harakeke is a natural antiseptic that protects skin from microbes and aids skin wound repair.
  • Ground Harakeke helps to gently polish the skin, buffing away daily stresses and grime – revealing a smooth, soft skin.
  • Cocoa and Shea Butter soften the skin while nourishing it in antioxidants.

Kawakawa, Charcoal & Coffee Soap

  • Kawakawa calms inflammation and protects from harmful microbes – reducing redness and calming itchy skin.
  • Activated Charcoal absorbs toxins, detoxifying everything in its path.
  • Coffee wakes up your blood vessels – stimulating circulation, reducing cellulite and is a rich source of Provitamin B3.
  • Featuring an aromatic blend of Amyris, Frankincense, and Peppermint Essential Oils.
  • Naturally coloured with Activated Charcoal and Dark Plunger Coffee.

Kawakawa & Lavender Soap

Use for everyday washing of the body and face. Gentle enough to use daily without drying out the skin. Suited to all skin types, including sensitive or anyone that feels soap usually dries out their skin or exacerbates skin issues. Suited to those with skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and acne.
