Katy Cottrell Marquetry

Katy Cottrell is one of only three New Zealand members of the Marquetry Society. Rekindling the ancient craft of drawing with veneers, this is Katy’s fourth exhibition of her work. A woodwork teacher and designer, Katy uses both traditional and modern techniques to render her original illustrations. Her techniques and style were refined during her Masters of Fine Art, which specialised in marquetry installations and inlaid-in furniture to reflect environmental narratives.

Pieces almost always feature wildlife, a passion of hers, and have been sold across Aotearoa. This collection of original pieces created especially for this exhibition celebrates wildlife of the valley.
